How to Clean a Musty Smelling Sink

How to Clean a Musty Smelling SinkWhew! You’ve finished cleaning the kitchen and even your sink sparkles. You’ve put the cleaning supplies away and now you’re walking over to the sink to rinse that dirty dish you found in the playroom. But wait, what’s that smell?

A musty smelling sink can happen, even from the cleanest of kitchens. The same water that stays in your sink trap under your sink, can also sometimes allow mold and mildew to grow.

Natural Cleaning Solution

First off, we’re going to assume you have not just used any commercial drain cleaning products in your sink. Those can sometimes react with other ingredients, and we don’t want that to happen.

Carefully pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into your sink. If you have a funnel, great. If you don’t, try to be extra careful so that it ends up where you want. Now pour 1 cup of white vingar right behind that and watch for an immediate reaction. Wait about 15 minutes until the froth settles and then run hot water down the drain for about a minute.

The combination of the 2 ingredients results in a natural compound that should hopefully cleanse the pipes of those unwanted odors. If you think your problem is still living in your sink trap, give us a call. We love tackling smelly drain problems!
